Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has extended all-out support to the Department for International Development (DFID) UK on behalf of the provincial government and different sectors in KP as well as Fata adding that help from any country or organisation for betterment of the people of terror stricken province would be whole heatedly welcomed.
This, he said, while talking to the head of DFID Rosemary Knight at Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad, the other day. Secretary Information, Azmat Hanif Orakzai was also present on the occasion. She discussed project plan of DFID for KP and Fata and the possibilities of investment in the information sector.
Iftikhar Hussein maintained that he welcomed the efforts of DFID for development of KP and Fata but for that a conducive atmosphere was need of the hour. That was why the provincial government was working for maintenance of peace and security in KP as well as Fata, he said. He stressed upon the DFID to go forward as per its project plan without any delay so as objectives of its program could be reached to the common man.
The Information Minister continued that his government considering the media a powerful medium for effectively countering terrorism, that was why, the provincial government was formulating and information and communication strategy which was in the offing and Information Department was also being strengthened. Under that strategy, the provincial government has established two FM Radio channels and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa TV and three more Radio channels in the province this year were also in the pipeline, he furthered.
He said investment by the DFID would be eulogised in the media sector. The minister vowed that decisions for establishment of TV as well as FM Radio channels in the province was final and would be materialised from our own resources as it was must for the peace and security of this region and its people.
He added, through medium, we could easily convey our messages to the entire region. Rosemary Knight, while assuring the support of her organisation in the media sector, said that she would play her active role in this regard. She in the first phase, offered training facilities to the Information Officers for capacity building of the department.
