ISLAMABAD: Italy, Thursday, reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a comprehensive and multi-professional approach towards enhancing the value chain of olive oil cultivation and production in Pakistan.

The commitment was expressed by Marilina Armellin, Ambassador of Italy in Pakistan during the 4th Steering Committee meeting for the “Olive-Culture Holistic and Multi-professional Mechanism for a Pakistani Olive Oil Value Chain” Project assembled here, marking another significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s olive sector.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Capt Muhammad Asif (retd), Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and Marilina Armellin, Ambassador of Italy in Pakistan.

The meeting served as a platform for strategic discussions and collaborative efforts. Discussions focussed on leveraging synergies, optimizing resources, and exploring innovative strategies to bolster the sector’s resilience and competitiveness on both domestic and international fronts. The partnership between Italian and Pakistani experts is deemed essential for nurturing olive cultivation and enhancing olive oil production.

Apparently the Potohar plateau is full of wild olives. With drip irrigation the "badlands" of the Potohar could be changed into a veritable Olive garden. Keep it up Italy!
