At least 10 people were reported killed while a member of the provincial assembly was injured in various incidents of violence in the city, police and rescue sources said on Friday. Three students belonging to a seminary run by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were killed at Abul Hassan Ispahani Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in the limits of Mobina Town police station.
Police said that two armed pillion riders opened fire and killed Azizur Rahman, 26, Qari Muavia, 27, and Muhammad Shahzad, 23. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). ASWJ's spokesperson Maulana Akbar Saeed said that the deceased were students of Madressah Darul Khair situated in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
He said that students were targeted as they were returning to their seminary after participating in a protest demonstration organised by ASWJ against the killing of party workers in the city. Maulana Akbar Saeed condemned the killing and urged the authorities to quickly arrest elements behind the incident. A 25-year-old man named Yousuf was killed near Nasir Jump in the limits of Korangi police station. Police said that two armed men on motorcycle had shot and killed the man. His body was shifted to JPMC.
Two men were gunned down in Sector-6 of Korangi in the limits of Awami Colony police station. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. The bodies were shifted to the JPMC. Two more persons were shot dead in Sector-3 of Baldia Town in the limits of Saeedabad police station. One of the deceased was later identified as 30-year-old Shahzad while the identity of other could not be ascertained. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsies.
Another man was shot dead while a number of others were injured in Sector 5-J of Baldia Town in the limits of Baldia police station. Police identified the Saad, 26. The injured were named: Farooq, 56, Hammad, 24, and Nusrat. Police said that the victims were attacked while in their car in Sector 7 of Baldia Town.
A man was stabbed to death in Manghopir area because of a personal feud in the limits of Manghopir police station. Police said that Shah Murad, 30, son of Saleh Muhammad, was stabbed to death by an unidentified man. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Meanwhile, a Sindh MPA Kulsoom Chandio was shot and injured in an armed attack near Zamzama Street in the limits of defence police station. The injured member of the provincial assembly was shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment.
