The International Infection Prevention Week, organised by Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre from 14th to 20th of October 2012, concluded here on Saturday. According to the Hospital's spokesman, this week is celebrated globally to create awareness among health care professionals, patients and their family members about infection prevention and it refreshes the knowledge of doctors, nurses and other team members, who are actively involved in patient care activities and reminds them of the importance of infection prevention.
The global message of this year was "Spread knowledge not infection". The major areas of infection control covered this year through this campaign were Importance of Hand washing, standard and transmission based precautions, avoidance of needle stick injuries and proper segregation and disposal of waste.
