Pakistan Society of Neurology (PSN) to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease organised outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) a walk on Saturday morning. A large number of people from different walks of life including doctors, civil society, students and paramedics participated in the walk to create awareness about the disease.
They were holding banners and placards inscribed with various slogans. Speaking to participants, Secretary PSN Dr Wasay said that more than one million people in Pakistan currently are suffering from Alzheimer's a most common cause of dementia, adding figure was likely to increase two-fold by 2030.
He said that decline in memory especially short-term memory, thinking, judgement power and recognising things are most common symptoms of this kind of disease. He said that depression is most common cause of dementia in our country, adding figure of other issues causing diseases are also increasing. He urged the government to devise policy for spreading awareness of this diseases and supporting people from dementia.
