LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), MCB Bank and Mastercard have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to digitise payments across Pakistan.

According to PITB on Tuesday, the MoU was signed by PITB Additional Director General Khurram Mushtaq and MCB Bank Group Head Shahzad Ishaq in the presence of the PITB and MCB Bank officials.

This strategic partnership aims to revolutionise financial transactions within the public sector and enhance the efficiency, transparency and security of online payments to various government and private institutions throughout Pakistan. As the primary interface for these payments, PITB’s PayZen platform would ensure that the process remains transparent, accessible, and user-friendly for the citizens of Pakistan.

While addressing the ceremony, PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf said that this collaboration is set to streamline financial transactions, reduce bureaucratic inefficiencies and provide a secure method for handling government payments, ultimately fostering a more digitally inclusive society.” Our goal is to make digital payments accessible and convenient for all citizens, enhancing overall public service delivery,” he added.

Meanwhile, the PITB’s Government Digital Services (GDS) Wing and the Punjab Land Records Authority signed a MoU, under which the GDS Wing would implement the e-Filing Office Automation System (e-Foas) to improve the efficiency of office affairs of the Punjab Land Records Authority. GDS Wing DG Muhammad Waseem Bhatti and Punjab Land Record Authority DG Ikram ul Haq inked the agreement.

As per the agreement, all of the Punjab Land Record Authority’s office operations would now be distributed digitally. In this regard, the GDS Wing DG said that they were dedicatedly striving to achieve the goal of making Punjab a fully paperless province. He added that by introducing e-Foas in government offices, the Punjab government is saving billions of rupees from the public treasury and enhancing service delivery.
