All the stakeholders of civil registration have stressed the need for simplification of the registration procedure and giving incentives to those who register their babies, and they recommended to observe the 2013 as the year of registration and launching a countrywide awareness drive to achieve the objective.
Addressing the seminar on promotion of civil registration management system (CRMS) jointly organised by Nadra, UNFPA, and Local Government of Punjab at a local hotel on Monday, the speaker said Punjab government had taken a positive step by waiving off the fine of Rs 500 on late entry of birth and death. They said all the Union Councils were being computerised so that they could issue death, birth, divorce and marriage registration certificates properly, but some UCs were located in rented buildings, and a large number of UCs had no electricity connections. In the absence of electricity and phone connectivity, it was not possible to computerise the UCs.
The speakers discussed many hurdles and hardships in the way of registration. Nadra Director General said that entry of death and birth should be on even SMS adding that population of females was 52 percent but their registration was merely 42 percent.
Speakers included Dr Sajjad Hussain Shah (Retd), Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Safdar (Retd), Fahim Akhtar, Nadeem Aslam Director General Local Government, Major Imran Ali Khan (Retd), Bilal Athar, Shahzad Ahmed, Mehmood Javed Bhatti, Dr Muhammad Rafi, Tanzil-ur-Rehman, Umair Khalid Sherwani, Jamil Hashmi (DCO), Auranzeb Khan and Tahira Perveen.
