ISLAMABAD: The city police on Monday arrested Secretary Information Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Raoof Hasan from the party’s Central Secretariat for allegedly heading a digital media cell involved in spreading misinformation.
A heavy contingent of police raided PTI’s Central Secretariat and arrested Hasan and some other staff. Police also took computers and LCDs installed at the PTI office into their custody.
Later, police handed over the PTI leader to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Earlier, a PTI leader claimed police had also arrested PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan but later Gohar clarified that the police had not arrested him but he went along with Hasan due to his ill health.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, police have arrested PTI’s coordinator Ahmed Waqas Janjua. Following an initial investigation and based on digital material, police and FIA have jointly raided the PTI office, it says.
It says that during the raid Raoof Hassan was arrested. “PTI is involved in anti-state propaganda,” it added. A joint investigation team (JIT) has been constituted to probe the matter, it says.
