Strategic reforms roadmap: 11 ministries to liaise with consultants

  • Ministries include power, finance, petroleum, commerce, info and telecom, industries and production, planning, development and special initiatives, privatisation, food, BoI, and overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The prime minister has directed 11 ministries, which are part of the PM’s Strategic Reforms Roadmap to ensure cooperation with foreign consultants for their review and revision of sectoral plans, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.

The names of ministries/ divisions which are part of the PM’s Strategic Reforms Roadmap are as follows: (i) Power Division; (ii) Finance Division; (iii) Petroleum Division; (iv) Ministry of Commerce; (iv) Ministry of Industries and Production;(vi) Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication; (vii) Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives; (viii) Ministry of Privatisation; (ix) Ministry of National Food Security and Research; (x) Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development; and (xi) Board of Investment (BoI).

PM to head panel to boost investment

Syed Shakeel Shah, additional secretary-II of Prime Minister’s Office, in a letter to the concerned ministries/divisions has informed that the prime minister wants them to coordinate with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) technical assistance team members who are supporting the development of the PM’s economic revival plan including sectoral plans and sectoral roadmap.

Each ministry/division to nominate a focal person (not below-BS-20) for coordinating this exercise.

The Prime Minister’s Office has directed the secretaries of the relevant ministries/divisions to ensure effective engagement with the team of consultants assigned the task of reviewing sectoral plans and developing a home-grown economic plan for Pakistan.

Govt should also strategically review the opinions of youth on social media, even when majority is fake news, there is healthy percentage with meaningful messages n beliefs, these citizens are angry.

Too many Ministries . Need to reduce Ministries and Government Departments. Should be functional.

we have ministry of postal services and ministries of railways. these services are better offered by private sector. we have ministry of defense and ministry of defense production, these two should be one ministry. we have a ministry of statistics. we have a ministry of Kashmir affairs and gilgit baltistan and again a ministry of states and frontier regions.

Much do about nothing. Why waste time and money on foreign consultants? Every Ministry has its own attached/specialised departments equipped with international level expertise.

The FCDO consultants must work closely with the government ministries and teams as 'Change" or "Process" consultants, not as "Experts" who are parachuted in to give unrealistic recommendations.

If the reforms do nothing else, they need to set the Pakistani Entrepreneur free so he or she can create wealth for the country. Red-tape is a huge hindrance for the investor.

The FCDO consultants need to study the reforms in India in 1991, and try and develop recommendations for our government to undertake a similar exercise that will help our investment and exports grow.
