Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Tehran on July 30 to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Thursday.

In a press briefing, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said the prime minister will attend the ceremony at the invitation of the speaker of the Iranian parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

“The visit attests to the commitment by the two countries to strengthen leadership level engagement bilateral cooperation,” the spokesperson said.

The oath-taking ceremony will take place on July 30, 2024, who won Iran’s Presidential election earlier this month.

The elections were called after President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash in May.

Pakistan welcomes the ‘Declaration of Unity’

Meanwhile, Pakistan welcomes the ‘Declaration of Unity’ by the Palestinian political factions in Beijing, the FO said on Thursday.

“We recognise and commend China’s role in bringing the factions together for meaningful negotiations.

“Unity amongst the Palestinian people is of paramount significance in the wake of the ongoing war crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, and the blatant disregard for international norms by the Israeli occupation forces,” the FO statement read.

Islamabad again called upon the international community to intervene immediately to stop the ongoing “illegal and incessant aggression in Gaza”.

“We also reiterate support for the realisation of the inalienable right to self-determination of the Palestinian people. Their right of return to Palestine and establishment of an independent homeland for the Palestinians, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
