ISLAMABAD: A special court, on Tuesday, handed over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s International Media Coordinator Ahmad Waqas Janjua to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a two-day physical remand in a case registered against him regarding allegedly spreading anti-state propaganda.
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Shabbir Bhatti, while hearing the case, granted FIA two-day physical remand of Janjua.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on July 30 sent Janjua to jail in a case of terrorism but the FIA arrested him in a case already registered against PTI’s Secretary Information Raoof Hasan and others.
Earlier, FIA produced Janjua before the court to obtain his physical remand. Janjua’s lawyers, Imaan Zainab Mazari and Hadi Chatta appeared before the court.
The prosecutor told the court that on Janjua’s revelations, the First Information Report (FIR) has been registered.
The judge inquired that this is the first remand of this accused.
The prosecutor told the court, yes in this case, this was his first remand.
Janjua’s lawyer objected to FIA’s request for granting of physical remand. ATC on July 30 sent his client on judicial remand. In the same case, the court sent Raoof Hasan and others on judicial remand to jail.
He said that my client is in the custody of the state for the last seven days. During the custody, the FIA can investigate his client, he said. He requested the court to send his client on judicial remand.
Chatta told the court that Janjua was not in contact with Raoof Hasan for the last two and a half years. Due to some differences, Janjua and Hasan were not in contact, he said.
The prosecutor told the court that the current case against Janjua is related to cybercrimes. The accused can tell us about the contact number in his mobile phone, he said, adding that agency experts will conduct a technical analysis of Janjua’s mobile phone.
He further said that the agency required the remand as its investigators will question him about the case. He requested the court to grant 10-day physical remand of the accused.
The court, after hearing the arguments, approved a two-day physical remand of the PTI’s international media coordinator.
