KARACHI: The Minister Social Welfare Mir Tariq Ali Talpur, visited the Sindh Child Protection Authority's Shelter Home for Destitute and Orphan Children, Saudabad, District Korangi, Malir accompanied by Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh and Moazzam Ali Mari, Director General, Sindh Child Protection Authority, Government of Sindh.

The visit aimed to monitor the services provided by the Shelter Home, assess the condition of the resident children, and review the progress of ongoing repair and maintenance work in Shelter Home. The Minister sought to understand the challenges and difficulties faced by the children residing at the Shelter Home.

The Secretary, Social Welfare Department provided an overview of the services available for the resident children, including Education, Healthcare Services, Psychosocial Support, Nutritious Meals and Clothing, Recreational Activities, Security Measures and Legal Assistance for court-referred children.

During the visit, the Minister, Social Welfare toured all sections of the Shelter Home, including separate sections for the boys' and girls'. He spent quality time interacting with the children, inquired about their living conditions, and observed their activities. The children expressed satisfaction with their living conditions, available facilities and the quality of meals.

The Minister also visited the dispensary in Shelter Home and inquired about the availability of a doctor. The Secretary, Social Welfare Department informed the Minister that a doctor had been assigned by the Health Department during the interim government period. The Minister directed that a formal request be sent to the Health Department to appoint a regular general physician for the routine checkup of resident children.

During the visit, the Director General, Sindh Child Protection Authority reported that the Shelter Home management is focused on the education of the children residing there. A request has been submitted for hiring more teachers and an instructor for stitching classes for female residents.

Following this, the Minister received an update on the progress of repair work from the Engineer of the Works & Services Department, Government of Sindh. The Minister instructed the Engineer to ensure the completion of the work, particularly the boring for water and the installation of CCTV cameras, within a month. The installation of CCTV cameras was emphasized as the most urgent security measure.

The Minister, Social Welfare expressed his satisfaction with the operations of the Shelter Home and appreciated the efforts of the Sindh Child Protection Authority in providing essential services to needy children.
