LAHORE: In a shocking revelation, Engineer Zahoor Sarwar, a member of the governing body of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), has exposed a sleazy venture of engineers’ sale/purchase by the PEC mafia at a press conference on Thursday.
According to Sarwar, the PEC, a statutory body formed in 1976, has been hijacked by a mafia that prioritizes personal interests over its primary functions of regulating the engineering profession, providing solutions for engineering problems, and monitoring and evaluating engineering projects.
Sarwar revealed that the PEC Mafia has created a grimy business of sale and purchase of engineers’ licenses, where companies can buy licenses from engineers at a rate of Rs1 lac per annum for civil engineers and Rs25,000 per annum for electrical and mechanical engineers.
This practice has led to a situation where engineers are being exploited, with their worth reduced to just Rs2,000 per month, despite spending 16 years in education and having parents spend millions on their education.
Sarwar also highlighted cases of non-engineers being shown as engineers and companies being registered by PEC, which have been hidden from the public and are still pending without a final verdict.
He appealed to the government to intervene and stop this sale/purchase business immediately and urged engineers to stop selling their respect and licenses to the mafia, which would force them to hire engineers on a monthly basis, creating more jobs for the engineering professionals.
