Taliban 'hit list': security for schoolgirl stepped up

Authorities have extended security coverage to a teenage schoolgirl from the north-western Swat district after new Taliban threats, a top official said on Tuesday. Hina Khan claims she is on the group's hit list, two weeks after a near-fatal murder attempt upon 15-year-old activist Malala Yousafzai.
"The girl is in Islamabad and we have provided her with security," Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters, refusing to share further details. Khan, who publicly advocated education for females some three years ago, when the insurgency in the Swat region was at its peak, says her family had moved to the capital city amid security concerns. "I feel I would not be able to go to school in Islamabad after these renewed threats," she was quoted as saying.
