Leader of the House in Senate, Senator Jahangir Badar has said that President Asif Ali Zardari has clearly pointed out that next election in the country will be transparent, fair and neutral and we will respect mandate given by people of Pakistan for formation of new government.
The President reiterated that PPP will continue to struggle for economic, social and legal justice in the country. He was expressing these views in a meeting with German Ambassador Cyril Nunn here on Tuesday. Badar apprised the Ambassador regarding the working of special Senate Committee for elections under his chairmanship that will prepare recommendations after thorough consultation of all stakeholders, including political parties, think tanks, representatives of civil society and media.
These recommendations will be put before Parliament for legislation, if required for improving electoral system in the country and removing illegal and malpractices in the electoral system. He told the Ambassador that two important meetings of this committee have already been held, particularly the second meeting, which was actually a public hearing of all the stakeholders to get their feedback for improving electoral process was indeed very important in this regard.
Talking about paradigm shift in the world, he said that the future world will be shaped by political economy and relations between states will be defined by this. The nations and the regions that will understand this paradigm shift and respond to it proactively will definitively have a significant position in comity of nations. He said that peace in Afghanistan is important for peace in Pakistan, region and the world at large, adding that increasing co-operation between Pakistan and Afghanistan in political, economic and trade sphere is beneficial for lasting peace in the region. The German Ambassador said that Pakistan and Germany enjoy very close and cordial relations and Germany along with EU want to expand co-operation with Pakistan in different fields. -PR
