ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the main objective of the proposed constitutional amendments is to extend the tenure of the “Gang of Three”.
“They have destroyed the country and now they are bent upon destroying the Supreme Court”, Khan said, while talking to reporters informally at Adaila Jail, Rawalpindi, after the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust case against him and his wife Bushra Bibi.
About the proposed constitutional amendments, he further said that the purpose of the constitutional court is to clip the powers of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. After clipping the powers of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court they want to appoint Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa to the constitutional court, he said.
He alleged that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is the beneficiary of the constitutional amendments.
Khan further accused the government of destroying the judiciary to cover election fraud and so that the PTI does not return to power again.
The PTI founding chairman said that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa never talked about the “treatment of PTI’s members, especially women” who were detained after the May 9 mayhem.
He demanded that the appointment of the next Chief Justice be immediately announced. We completely, back Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as the next chief justice.
Khan reiterated that if PTI were not granted permission tohold a public gathering in Rawalpindi then his party would stage protests.
Earlier, the Accountability Court judge, Nasir Javed Rana, hearing the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) scam, commonly known as the Al Qadir Trust case, adjourned the hearing till September 27 due to the absence of Bushra Bibi’s counsel.
Khan and his wife were produced before the court.
Bushra Bibi’s counsel Usman Riaz Gull’s associate told the court that his lead counsel tested positive for dengue and requested the court to adjourn the hearing.
