The Karachi Port handled 71,779 tonnes of cargo comprising 57,567 tonnes of import cargo and 14,212 tonnes of export cargo including 3,482 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 57,567 tonnes comprised 26,305 tonnes of containerised cargo; 116 tonnes of general cargo; 31,146 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,500 tonnes of coal; 5,789 tonnes of DAP and 8,857 tonnes of rock phosphate.
The total export cargo of 14,212 tonnes comprised 12,412 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,800 tonnes of cement. As many as 3,482 containers comprising 2,158 containers import and 1,324 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 535 of 20's and 752 of 40's loaded while 5 of 20's and 57 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 373 of 20's and 115 of 40's loaded containers while 329 of 20's and 196 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Two ships namely Kota Ganteng and Al-Salam-II carrying one container ship and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Two vessels viz Santa Rafeala and APL Brisbane with two container ships respectively are currently at the berths.
Two ships namely Four Kitakami and Lodestar Genesis with one coal carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are expected to sail on Friday. Four vessels viz OOCL Busan, MT Quetta, Mandarin River and Victori Star with one container ship, one crude oil tanker, one coal carrier and one project cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz Zante, Taban-1, MT Lahore and Noble Coral with two container ships, one crude oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
The total import cargo of 16,335 tonnes includes 2,576 tonnes of LPG; 4,629 tonnes of general cargo; 1,423 tonnes of steel scrap and 7,707 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 15,798 tonnes includes 9,702 tonnes of cement; 1,287 tonnes of rice and 4,809 tonnes of containerised cargo. Two ships namely CV CGM Roshini and MT Gas Elixir with containers and LPG respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely MV Changan with general cargo is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of six vessels viz CV CGM Roshini, MS Fiesta, ILC Friendship, Mana Deepa, MV Changan and MT Gas Elixir are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice, steel scrap, general cargo and LPG respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as nine ships namely CGM Amber, Hammonia Pacificum, Clipper Hermoa, Harsanadi, Merclir, Beagle-III, Euro Sea, Vishva Malhar and Phutai-19 with containers, chemicals, wheat, furnace oil, steel coil and rice respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
Five vessels viz CV CGM Amber, CV Hammonia Pacificum, Harsanadi, Euro Sea and Vishva Malhar with containers, chemicals, furnace oil and steel coil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-3), FOTCO Oil Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday.
