The government committee requested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit its charter of demands in the next round of talks, expected to take place in the first week of January 2025.

This was stated in an official statement following the first session of negotiations between the government and PTI to defuse the prevailing tensions.

According to the statement read out to the media by Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the negotiation took place in the committee room of the Parliament House under the chairmanship of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

The PTI delegation comprised Asad Qaiser, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Raja Nasir Abbas. Qaiser informed the meeting that some members were unable to attend.

The government’s delegation included Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Irfan Siddiqui, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aleem Khan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and Naveed Qamar.

Addressing the session, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq hailed the dialogue between the government and the opposition, saying negotiation is a hallmark of democracy.

“I am grateful to all of you […] for forming a committee without delay. I think the seriousness of the negotiation is evident from the seniority of the present leadership,” Sadiq said.

“I hope that we will talk about Pakistan’s benefit,” he said, adding that the solution to every problem was in negotiations.

He further stated that the parliament is a representative body of 240 million people and that the public has high hopes for its ability to resolve issues.

Sadiq stressed the importance of finding solutions to the people’s problems, highlighting that Pakistan’s economic progress is intrinsically linked to political stability. He underscored that the current situation demands the promotion of political harmony.
