ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Consulate in New York hosted a special event in honor of the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and his delegation.

The event was held at the Pakistan Consulate in New York and attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, members of the Pakistani community, individuals from Gilgit-Baltistan, and tour operators.

The ceremony began with a welcome note by the Consul General of Pakistan, Aamer Ahmad Adozai, who warmly welcomed the Chief Minister, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the US, and the delegation. The Ambassador of Pakistan Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, highlighted the vast opportunities in Pakistan’s tourism sector, especially in Gilgit-Baltistan, and thanked the Chief Minister and his team for representing Pakistan at the New York Travel Show.

In his address, the Ambassador stressed the importance of strengthening connections between Pakistani tour operators and the community to promote tourism in Pakistan and improve economic ties with the United States. He remarked, “Today’s participation in the New York Travel Show marks the beginning of a new era of growth and prosperity in Pakistan’s tourism sector. We must provide better facilities to tourists, and I assure you that the Embassy and Consulate will offer full support in achieving this goal.”

The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulber Khan, expressed his delight at meeting members of the Pakistani community in the US and appreciated their contributions to promoting tourism in Pakistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. He highlighted the immense tourism potential of Gilgit-Baltistan, stating, “GB may be a small province population-wise, but God has blessed it with unparalleled natural beauty. While we face challenges in providing world-class facilities, both the GB government and the federal government are committed to resolving these issues.”

The Chief Minister mentioned recent achievements, including the establishment of an international airport in Skardu, and announced that efforts would be made to upgrade Gilgit Airport to international status. He said, “If we succeed in bringing more tourists to Gilgit-Baltistan, it could become the richest province in Pakistan. GB is home to the largest glaciers and some of the highest mountains in the world.” He urged overseas Pakistanis to promote international tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan and contribute to improving the tourism sector in Pakistan. The Chief Minister concluded by thanking the Ambassador and the attendees for their participation.

The Minister for Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghulam Mohammad, also addressed the gathering. He described the New York Travel Show as a collaborative effort in which the GB government has been participating for the past four years, yielding positive results. He emphasized the importance of marketing Pakistan’s top tourist destinations and shared how many countries have achieved great success through tourism. He urged everyone to overcome the deficiencies in the tourism sector and emphasized the need for investment in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Minister for Planning and Development Gilgit-Baltistan, also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the challenges faced by the tourism sector and the need to overcome them to unlock the region’s full potential.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to promote Pakistan and Gilgit-Baltistan as world-class tourist destinations and ensure the growth and development of the tourism industry.
