According to the Vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, Performance and Initiatives of Punjab Police in the Year 2024
Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has taken several steps to maintain law and order, prevent crimes and provide justice to the people easily, as well as to provide services in a better manner and to further improve the overall performance of Punjab Police.
In order to improve the working of police stations, Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued instructions to ensure immediate registration of FIRs in all cases of crime against property including robbery, theft, banditry, murder, attempt to murder which is being implemented diligently.
Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while declaring crimes related to women and children as a red line in the year 2024, said that the honor and respect of every woman is he Red Line and violence, abuse of women and children should not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Following this vision and directive, Punjab Police launched the “Never Again” campaign to prevent gender-based crimes, under which strict legal action has been taken against incidents of crimes related to women without delay. By the orders of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, Virtual Police Stations were established for the first time to provide protection to women as well as “Virtual Center for Child Safety” for children.
Panic buttons were also installed in different areas of the city to provide immediate police assistance to women. In addition, on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, free internet services were also provided in hundreds of public places by the Safe Cities Authority.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz also approved new development projects to make the province of Punjab safe and the police stronger. According to the details, 599 police stations of the province were transferred to the Special Initiative Police Stations protocol in the year 2024.
The process of constructing 39 Smart Police Stations was started in different districts of the province. Approval was sought to build 19 new pickets in the Kachha area of Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
Construction of 30 border pickets has been started in DG Khan, Layyah, Mianwali and Bhakkar. Artificial Intelligence Center, paperless computerized system has been introduced in Special Branch Punjab. District office of Special Branch has also been established in district Murree. Construction of hostel for women officers has been started in Qurban Police Lines. Punjab Government has also approved 30 plots to shift police stations in private buildings.
Approval of “Hard Area Allowance” has been taken for officers and officials performing duties in the Kacha area. In the light of the Safe Punjab vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police has been continuing to take steps to prevent drug trafficking, kite flying, electricity theft and other heinous crimes across the province including Lahore, as well as to arrest proclaimed offenders involved in criminal activities.
During the year 2024, more than 137,000 proclaimed offenders involved in heinous crimes were arrested across the province, including Lahore, while 104 heinous wanted in criminal activities and fugitives from foreign countries were arrested and shifted in Pakistan. 66,376 suspects involved in drug seller were arrested and 58,756 cases were registered against them. 35,716 kilograms of hashish, 473 kilograms of ice, 6,979 kilograms of heroin were recovered from drug dealers. More than 1,397,000 liters of liquor and 1,697 kilograms of opium were also recovered from them.
The police admitted 1,283 drug addicts to rehabilitation centers for treatment. 6,904 gangs involved in heinous crimes were eliminated in the year 2024. 17,198 members of organized criminal gangs were also arrested, stolen items approximately worth Rs.05.25 billion was recovered.
The stolen goods included 1890 vehicles, 29181 motorcycles, 2898 tolas of gold, 11788 mobile phones and 6122 cattle. More than Rs. 07.16 billion cash was recovered from criminals wanted in various cases. 279 criminals involved in multiple murders and 303 criminals involved in robbery with murder were arrested.
1496 criminals involved in gang rape were also arrested, while 1436 criminals involved in kidnapping of children and others for ransom were arrested. 43048 pistols, 3273 rifles, 824 revolvers, 3733 guns, 1789 Kalashnikovs, more than 321,000 bullets and cartridges were also recovered from arrested criminals. During the ongoing campaign against electricity theft, more than 118,000 cases were registered and approximately 74,000 electricity thieves were arrested.
According to the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, funds worth more than Rs.2.32 billion were spent on the welfare of police officers and employees during the year 2024.
More than Rs.460 million in financial assistance grants were approved for officers and officials while died during in service. Similarly, 08 MoUs were signed with educational institutions and hospitals in the year 2024. Rs.281.9 million was spent on the treatment of police officials and their families as medical financial assistance.
More than Rs.781 million was released for the children of police officers / officials for educational scholarships. In the year 2024, 170 plots and Rs.360 thousands were provided to the families of martyrs for the construction of houses, while more than Rs.80 million was spent on the treatment of 241 employees who were injured during performing their obligations.
The Punjab government has approved more than Rs.800 million for the purchase of houses for the families of 42 martyrs. In order to protect the lives and property of the people, 295 officers and personnel who were injured while fighting dangerous terrorists and criminals have been awarded the gallantry status of Ghazi.
On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police is engaged to deliver the best services to the people across the province. In continuation, facilities were provided to more than 2.6 million citizens at Police Khidmat Marakaz across the province during the year 2024.
Driving licenses were issued to more than 19.1 million citizens at Driving License Centers. More than 140,000 complaints received against police officers and personnel at IGP Complaint Center 1787 were redressed. Services were also provided to more than 85,000 minorities at Meesaq Centers.
Record promotions have been given to improve the performance of police officers / officials. During 2024, more than 4500 promotions were given across the province on merit and seniority. According to the details, 12 DSPs were promoted to the rank of SsP while 92 Inspectors were promoted to the rank of DSsP. 394 Sub-Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Inspectors, 131 Traffic Wardens were promoted to the rank of Senior Traffic Wardens. Similarly, 887 ASIs were promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspectors and 857 Head Constables were also promoted to the rank of ASIs. 1730 Constables were promoted to the rank of Head Constables. While 19 employees of Class iv cadre, 27 Junior Clerks, 19 Stenographers, 16 Senior Scale Stenographers, 01 Private Secretary and 01 Assistant Director were also promoted to the next ranks. 73 employees of Special Branch Punjab were also promoted to the next rank.
