The Constitution does not allow the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to give political statements, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said on Tuesday. He, however, said the CJP and the COAS had both talked about state institutions' independence and stability, besides urging them to remain within their constitutional limits.
Talking to media persons here, Aitzaz said lawyers would resist all unconstitutional moves. He said the implementation of interim order of Supreme Court in the Balochistan unrest case was "not viable". He said the apex court's decisions on unrest in Sindh and Balochistan amounted to withdrawing moral justifications for the existence of democratic governments.
"If I were the Chief Minister of Balochistan, I would ask the Supreme Court to run the government affairs for the remaining period," the PPP Senator said and added the government of the Balochistan could not be dissolved unless members of the provincial assembly wanted to expel the chief minister.
He said that he did not foresee any confrontation between state institutions. He said anti-democratic forces were attempting to weaken the democracy.
