National Kisan Movement (NKM) has announced to join the protest camp announced by the Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) at Islamabad to press the government for solving the problems being faced by the farmers' community.
It also announced to jointly struggle with the KBP against the anti-grower policies of the government. This announcement was made in a meeting by NKM Chairman Major Habib ur Rehman Mayo (retd) with KBP Central Secretary Information Haji Muhammad Ramzan.
Ramzan called on Mayo on Tuesday and apprised him of a movement announced by the Board against anti-agriculture policies of the federal and provincial governments.
Haji Ramzan said the KBP had launched a movement against the government and would set up a protest camp at Islamabad from November 13 to 15, 2012. He said if government failed to accept growers' demands then this movement would be extended to through out the country.
Habib ur Rehman Mayo assured full support to the KBP and alleged that agricultural sector was nearing death due to wrong policies of the rulers.
He said that prices of different agricultural inputs including electricity, fertiliser, pesticides and fuel were very higher while prices of commodities were going down. He said sugarcane price of Rs 170 per maund announced by the government was not acceptable to the farmers. He announced that NKM members would fully participate in the protest camp.
