Chairman Site Association of Industry (SAI) Dr Arshad A Vohra has spelled out the "Self Security Plan" prepared by SAI in collaboration with the CPLC after examining it from all angles for the Site industrial area. Briefing members about the plan, he said that the completely equipped crime command and control center will be established at the association office.
He said that a retired army officer will be appointed to head the center and control the security plan. And that the association would hire security guards to establish well equipped check posts covering major roads of site industrial area. CCTV cameras with night vision would be established on all major and minor roads and 24 hours monitoring would be carried out at the command and control center with the state of art technology.
The association would provide additional motorcycles and vans for strengthening patrolling in the site industrial area and would establish a rapid response team. Dr Vohra said that the Site industrial area is spread over 4700 acres comprising of 2700 industrial business houses, of them only 800 are members of the association.
He said that the association has proposed a nominal fee of Rs 5,000 per month for all the industrial units in Site and added that every unit must pay even if it is not member of the association. He also advised industrialists to pay the yearly contribution in one go to generate fund to speedup work on security plan.
He said that the association had already initiated work on the security plan and added that if any one has any suggestions he should bring it up so that it could be examined and if found workable it should be included in the plan. He urged all the industrialists of site industrial area to become members of the SAI and trust them. The chairman said that the prevailing law and order situation, gas, power and water shortage in the country in general and in site industrial area in particular has made it extra-ordinarily difficult to carry on business with mental peace of mind.
He said that a survey should be conducted in this industrial area to ascertain whether the quantum of revenue generation has increased or decreased in the last few years. Replying to various question, he said that besides their own security guards, police help will be sought in the implementation of the plan.
On a question about legal viability of the plan, he said that the association has discussed the plan with Governor, Chief Minister, Minister for Interior and other high-ups and there was no legal lacuna in the plan. Leader of the Businessmen Group (BMG) and former President KCCI, Siraj Kasim Teli said that the government has failed to provide for the security and safety of the business community and the general public.
He said that it was time to decide whether to carry on business or close it and go home. If we decide to carry on business we will have to make efforts for our safety and security. He once again demanded of the government to abolish license on arms and allow every one to carry arms for self defence.
Zubari Motiwala said that worsening law and order situation, extortion, kidnappings, dacoities are rampant in the economic hub of the country for the last four years which has forced the business community to initiate their own security plan. He said that targeted killings, life threats to businessmen, extortion and poor law and order in the city has crippled economic activities besides the free movement of businessmen.
