The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) on Saturday announced that it had postponed the public referendum scheduled to be held on 14th November in deference to the month of Muharram. The decision to put off the referendum has been taken in a joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee in London and Pakistan.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain has endorsed the decision of the Co-ordination Committee. It was noted that the MQM leaders, elected representatives and other office-bearer would be busy in meeting with religious scholars in order to ensure sectarian harmony during the month of Muharram. The new date of the referendum will be announced at some later stage.
