Pakistan’s middle order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has admitted that his mistakes and injuries stopped his career.

“I have committed mistakes and frequently got injured which stopped my career to a place but this is my chance and I am determined to get my place back,” Sohaib, who smashed 42-ball 85 in Multan Sultans’s win over Peshawar Zalmi in Dubai on Tuesday night, said in an interview.

The 30-year-old smashed seven sixes and four boundaries in the highest individual score of this year’s PSL, also guiding his team to the highest total this year of 183-3.

He admitted frequent injuries led to his career being blocked.

“I was close to selection for the team on the tour of New Zealand but then I hurt my back and was out of the reckoning,” said Sohaib. “

“I didn’t do well in the first three matches but Shoaib bhai gave me confidence that even if I fail I will play all ten matches and then Kumar Sangakkara encouraged me and that helped.”

Hailed as the next Inzamam-ul-Haq for being from the same city as the former captain — Multan — Sohaib failed to justify his immense potential. He also failed in the 2015 World Cup managing just one fifty.

Multan tops the table with nine points after six matches.
