At least 11 more people were killed while several others injured in different incidents of violence in the city, police and rescue sources said on Sunday. A man, his son and servant were killed in a firing incident in the Islam Chowk area of Orangi town in the limits of Pakistan Bazar police station. The deceased were identified as Jarrar Hussian, Imdad Hussain and Sajjad Hussain.
The deceased belonged to the Shia community. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completion of medico-legal formalities.
The funeral prayers of the deceased were offered at the Rizvia Imambargah where tension prevailed and armed men resorted to aerial firing, besides torching a bus.
The Sohrab Goth area turned into battlefield when two groups clashed near the Edhi morgue, leaving eight people injured, including a reporter of a private TV channel. The incident took place in the limits of Samanabad police station.
The clash is said to have started when activists of a religious party came to collect the body of one of their workers from the Edhi Centre just as the funeral prayer of a man belonging to the Shia community, who was gunned down on Saturday, was being offered. Unknown armed men are said to have started firing as a result of which a reporter named Zil-e-Haider and others, including Faiz, Sikandar, Wasi, Abdul Wahid, Jarrar, Raja and Nadeem Askari were injured.
Soon after the incident, police and personnel of other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area. Additional police force and Rangers' men were deployed in the violence-hit area. An FIR was also launched against unknown accused under sections 147, 148, 149 and 324 of CrPC.
A man was gunned down near the Banaras Bridge in the limits of Pirabad police station. The deceased was identified as Imran, 45, who lived in Pirabad Colony. He was Naswar vendor. The body was shifted to Abbasi Sahaheed Hospital.
An unidentified body was found in the Paper Market area in the jurisdiction of Kharadar police station.
Police claimed that the man might have been kidnapped before being shot several times. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
A man was shot dead in the Metroville area in the limits of Site-A police station. The deceased was identified as Jameel, 30. Police said a personal feud was the motive behind the murder. The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.
A traffic police personnel, who was shot and injured near Kala Pul, succumbed to his injuries at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The deceased was deployed in Soldier Bazar.
A man was gunned down in Manghopir area in the limits of Maghopir police station. The deceased was identified as Haroon. He used to live in the same area.
A body bearing torture marks was found stuffed in a gunny bag near Muhammad Ali Society in Bahadarabad area. The victim was identified as Akhtar Hussain, 33. An unidentified man was shot dead in the Sultanabad Area.
Three men -Asad Raza, Umar and Wajhat - were shot dead in the FC area in the jurisdiction of Shareefabad police station.
Police official said that the deceased, Asad Raza, was the son of the deputy director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) who was killed three months ago in Liaquatabad.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General Sindh police Fayyaz Ali Leghari constituted a special investigation team under the Deputy Inspector General East to ensure quick probe into the targeted killing of six seminary students who were gunned down in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Saturday night.
SSP Naveed Khuwaja, SSP Niaz Khoso and DSP/SHO concerned have also been named members of the probe team.
