The Punjab government approved six developing schemes costing Rs 7. 7 billion including Rs 5.5 billion for two ongoing mega road construction projects of the provincial capital on Wednesday. The approval for these projects was given in the 19th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party of current financial year 2012-13 presided over by chairman Punjab Planning and Development Board Javaid Aslam.
Secretary P&D Arif Anwar Baloch, members P&D Board and other senior representatives of the relevant Provincial Departments also attended the meeting. According to official sources, Rs 27 billion mega project Metro Bus Transit System for Lahore-Ferozepur Road Corridor has been sanctioned another Rs 2.677 billion for construction of MTS from Taxali Chowk to Shahdra Morr (package length 3.3-km).
Another pet project of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif "Rehabilitation of existing Multan Road, Lahore from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chauburji" has been provided addition funds amounting to Rs 3.578 billion for Land Acquisition and Shifting of Utilities. The other approved development schemes included:
(a) Establishment of Project Management Unit (PMU) for Ghazi University at D.G. Khan. (PC-II) at the cost of Rs 44.459 million;
(b) Construction of District Jail, Pakpattan (Revised) at the cost of Rs 298.085 million;
(c) Construction of District Jail, Bhakkar (Revised) at the cost Rs 377.308 million, Improvement and
(d) Remodelling and Extension of Tayyab Drain, District Rajanpur at the cost of Rs 941.504 million.
