Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab and Chairman Cabinet Committee Muharram-ul-Haram Senator Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that electronic and print media should help the government in maintenance of atmosphere of peace, brotherhood and harmony among various schools of thought in their programmes and talk shows. He said before publishing or telecasting any news during Muharram-ul-Haram, it must be verified by the control room, so that no unrest is created among the people.
Giving a briefing regarding Muharram-ul-Haram arrangements to the representatives of media here today, Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa appreciated responsible reporting and assistance to the government by the media during last Muharram-ul-Haram. He said that ban on pillion-riding would be minimised during Muharram-ul-Haram for convenience of the people; however, wherever district administrations would consider necessary, this ban could be implemented.
He said mobile peace committees consisting of administrative officers and Ulema of all schools of thought have been formulated at provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels. He said at every union council level, local SHOs and notables of the area would patrol their concerned areas for maintenance of law and order. He called upon the people to inform the local police immediately, if they see any suspicious element so that timely action can be taken against him.
Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa informed the media representatives that the visits to all the district headquarters of the province have been completed in order to review Muharram-ul-Haram related arrangements. He said that he himself would visit procession routes at sensitive areas, while no procession would be allowed without license. He said no problem would be created if we do not interfere into each others beliefs. He said the organisers of the processions have been asked to ensure adhering to the stipulated timings.
Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that necessary logistic support and funds have made available to administration and the police of all districts by the Punjab government, while control rooms have been set up at all districts of the province, whereas control rooms at sensitive tehsils are also being established, which would be linked with the central control room at the secretariat.
