The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from tehsil Bara, Khyber Agency have decided to hold a 'Grand Shura meeting' to devise a comprehensive strategy against the security forces' prolonged operations, and the US predator strikes in the tribal region, and the lack of basic facilities at their makeshift camp.
The tribal elders also expressed concern over the inhuman and indifferent attitude of the Peshawar police and asked the nationalist rulers to curb the denigrating behaviour of the law enforces for extortion with the already depressed people. The 'Grand Shura meeting' will be held at the Jalozai makeshift camp.
Addressing a news conference on Wednesday here at the press club, the chief of their self-formed Grand Shura, Haji Gulbat Afridi, PTI leader from Khyber Agency, Iqbal Afridi along-with some displaced persons said that the internally misplaced people from Bara were facing enormous difficulties due to lack of adequate facilities at the makeshift Jalazai camp.
The registration process for the helpless families was also suspended, whereas the authorities concerned were also not giving any attention towards the miseries faced by the displaced families. A number of displaced families were deprived of even basic relief items due to halt of the registration process, he added.
Afridi also alleged that the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were involved in corruption-by selling food items in the open market. Whereas sub-standard and below-weight relief food items were being distributed among the militancy-hit displaced people. The administration suspended the distribution of relief packages among the affectees several times for their personal benefit, he claimed.
On the occasion, PTI Khyber agency leader, Iqbal Afridi said that the tribal people had inflicted huge loss of lives and property in the wake of the excessive security forces operations in the Bara Khyber agency, and elsewhere in the tribal region.
He made the accusation that a secret drone campaign was being carried out on behest of the corrupt rulers with the killing of innocent people including women, children and the aged. He said that a large number of people had fled their hometown to take shelter in temporary facilities, but no proper facilities were available to them. He expressed grave concern over the indifferent attitude of the police with the Internally Displaced people in the settled areas.
The IDP have demanded of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, high officials of the police and Chief Justice Peshawar High Court to take notice of the problems faced by the displaced people at the Jalozai camp. They warned the government that they would hold a long march to the federal capital Islamabad and besiege the parliament house, if their demands were not fulfilled immediately.
