Microsoft Pakistan along with Nokia Pakistan recently held WOWZAPP 2012: World-wide Hackathon for Windows in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. WOWZAPP 2012 has been dubbed as the first simultaneous global Hackathon for students, start-ups and professional developers in Microsoft's history.
Pakistan is part of more than 100 locations across five continents that hold the weekend-long Hackathon for students and other participants to create apps for the Windows ecosystem following the recent Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 launches. WOWZAPP 2012 gathered students, developers and professionals to create apps on the latest Windows version. A total of 180 + apps came out as a result from the Hackathon held in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Participants worked together for 48 hours, creating apps for consumers to enjoy and building off the momentum of the release of Windows 8.
"With more than 1,700 registered to participate, WOWZAPP 2012 is the largest simultaneous Hackathon of student developers ever, acting as a catalyst to bring a wealth of new, exciting and quality apps to the Windows Store," said Moorthy Uppaluri, General Manager of World-wide Academic Programmes at Microsoft. Speaking on the occasion Rabia Nizami, Area Head DX, Nokia Near East said, "WOWZAPP contest has opened a new chapter in leveraging the strengths of Pakistani developers in order to provide more locally relevant content via Windows Marketplace."-PR
