MQM MNA Khush Bakht Sujaat advised businessmen to disclose unscrupulous elements' names who threaten them to pay extortion amount even if they claim to belong to any political party including MQM, PPP, ANP, etc. Speaking at a meeting organised by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) to compliment Khush Bakht Sujaat, Shujaat Ali Baig and Abdul Sami Khan Civil Award recipients of Sitara-e-Imtiaz, she said that disclosure of names will help the government, political parties and law enforcing agencies to apprehend them.
She said that people of Pakistan like to live in peaceful atmosphere and Pakistan of Jinnah and not in an environment of terror where people are killed in brought day light, people did not know either they return home or not in the evening. She said that VIP culture in the country has destroyed the entire political system. She said that law-and-order situation in Karachi is deteriorating and stakeholders are receiving threats by some elements. She advised the businessmen to establish community policing system in their respective areas.
Chairman Petroleum Dealers Association, M Sami Khan urged the government to reduce petrol and diesel prices at least by Rs 8 per liter as oil prices decreased in international market substantially. He pointed out that government is revising POL prices upward previously on weekly basis and now keeping mum when the POL prices are declining fast.
He also criticised government policy of carrying out three days gas supply closure to CNG stations and said that general public facing enormous problem to reach there offices and businesses. Shujaat Ali Baig said that huge police force deployed on the security of so-called VIPs should be withdrawn and deployed in Karachi to control law and order.
Leader of business community and former President FPCCI, S M Muneer said that there are no differences between leadership of FPCCI and KCCI and they are united on the issues faced by business community. He said the business community has full unity on the issue of saving Karachi's economy and striving hard to keep the industry's wheel rolling Muneer said that situation in Karachi extremely worrisome and the business community is altogether vying for the survival of Karachi economy.
He said many industrial units in Site, Korangi and other industrial areas are closed and other are at the verge of closure due to prevailing law and order and increasing threats of kidnapping and ransom. He said that Karachi is the economic capital of Pakistan and should be saved at all costs. He mentioned that following some measures taken by the Governor Sindh situation has started improving.
He said that Governor Sindh is also taking interest in community policing and those areas where CPLC Neighbourhood Care project has been established, crime rate has gone down significantly. Chairman KATI, Mohammad Zubair Chhaya expressed his great anguish on country's dwindling economy. He said that while the entire country's industrial sector is facing sheer crisis of electricity and gas shortage while Karachi is facing dual crisis of utilities shortage and law-and-order deterioration. He said that Federal and provincial governments should give top priority to restoration of law-and-order situation in Karachi for the sake of Pakistan's economy.
