Thai stocks recovered from a seven-week low on Friday while other major Southeast Asian stock markets ended weaker-to-flat as global economic concerns led by the US 'fiscal cliff' and the eurozone debt crisis weighed on the region's risky assets. Thailand, the region's best performing market, ended 0.5 percent firmer, while the Philippines also gained 0.5 percent in thin volume.
Malaysia ended 0.2 percent weaker at a seven-week low despite a $28.33 million foreign inflow and Singapore closed flat at a four-month low. Vietnam, the region's smallest bourse, edged down 0.3 percent, weighed down by negative sentiment over lingering bad debts, analysts said. The Indonesian stock market was closed for a holiday.
