At least two men were killed and three others injured on Sunday night when a CNG cylinder of a minibus plying on route G-17 exploded at a filing station located at the Abul Hasan Isphani Road near the Safari Park. All deceased and the injured persons were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police said that a man, identified as Ayaz, died on the spot while Ayub succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Police said that the blast occurred because of a faulty gas cylinder which exploded during the filling.
The blast was so intense that it destroyed the rear portion of the bus, dmaged three other vehicles and shattered windowpanes of nearby buildings.
It also partially damaged the filling station.
A statement issued by office-bearers of the Sindh Zone of All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) said that HDIP inspected the cylinder after the blast and found that it was a welded carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinder and not a seamless CNG cylinder.
It also said that authorities were trying to find out which workshop had installed an illegal cylinder in the vehicle.
