As economies continue to make a recovery from the events of recent years, at ACCA, we believe it is important to provide opportunities to policy makers, regulators, the business community and leading accountancy practices to share their experiences and ideas.
That is why we are delighted to organise this year's Accountants for Business Global Forum 2012 in Karachi to bring together experts from all sectors to discuss issues which are critical for business and the finance profession in Pakistan. The forum will cover a number of important issues, including finance transformation and access to finance and risk and rewards. These will be looked at in great detail and I am delighted to see an outstanding line up of experts who will take these debates forward during the day.
The issue of finance transformation shows the challenges we face, and emphasises the importance of forums such as these. A recent ACCA report called Finance Transformation: expert insights on shared services and outsourcing concluded that there is no turning back from finance shared services and outsourcing as a future delivery model for the finance function. Finance experts from 20 leading global organisations including Coca-Cola, Deloitte, PwC, Shell, Unilever and WPP, said that the use of finance shared services and outsourcing to transform the finances function was here to stay, with gains already made in reducing costs and improving processes.
However, the report reveals a number of challenges with must be overcome to unlock future value. Issues such as capability shortfalls and the need for good working relationships with outsourcing partners are critical, while different cultural values, targets and in centivization approaches and different views on transformation speed of delivery can 'make or break' the success of the finance transformation programme. It is clear that there is much more value still to be gained through finance transformation with shared services and outsourcing so that it drives long term sustainable business performance improvement, and I look forward to hearing the outcomes of your discussions at this forum.
