Foreign Office on Thursday admitted that it had prior information about execution of the sole survivor of Mumbai terror attack Ajmal Kasab. Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jalil Abbas Jilani said," Yes, we were informed a day before he was executed."
The statement of the Secretary clarified the position. Earlier, there was some confusion when Pakistan's High Commission in India was informed about the execution whether the information was given before the execution or afterwards. A strong reaction appeared in some reports on behalf of Tahrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who vowed to take revenge from India. Foreign Office was clueless in this respect.
To a question if TTP threaten diplomatic community in Pakistan, the secretary said he had no knowledge of TTP's recent threat, however, he added the security in Islamabad was satisfactory and foreign office did not receive any complaint from any diplomat. To another question whether Indian Embassy demanded additional security after Kasab's execution, he said he was unaware about it. "As far as security is concerned, Government of Pakistan is doing everything to provide security not only to general public, but also to diplomatic community," he added. He said Pakistan's position on terrorism was very consistent. We had condemned terrorism not only in Pakistan, but anywhere in the world.
