Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) Chairman Agha Saiddain has appealed to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister to look seriously the deteriorating law and order situation specially target killing, kidnapping and other heinous crimes.
These crimes are rampant while the government is adopting cosmetic measures only which produce no positive and tangible change, he said in a statement on Friday. The unabated criminal activities going on in all the business cities have further aggravated the situation. Because of this, several tanneries and other manufacturing units have been closed down rendering thousands of workers jobless, which is not only great loss to the business community and exporters but also a loss to the national exchequer. It is pertinent to mention that the leather industry was already suffering a lot of problems mainly because of the law and order situation, massive load shedding of power and gas in addition to scarcity of raw material due to export and smuggling of live animals, he said.
He said that the association's former Chairman, S.M. Muneer and other businessmen have held several meetings with the Governor and the Chief Minister of Sindh with the humble appeal to get the needful done expeditiously but nothing has come out so far and businessmen and the common people are passing their time in extreme fear.
