Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has said that the present government having completed its term, has no reason to delay the elections.
Addressing the two-day leadership course organised by the JI Punjab for district level JI leadership at Mansura on Monday, Liaqat Baloch said that an interim government should be set up forthwith, with the consultation of the Opposition and other political parties to hold fair, free and transparent elections.
Liaqat Baloch said that the whole country was suffered from lawlessness and unrest. The common man had deep hatred for President Zardari and his team. The present rulers had completely failed to provide any relief to the masses. The problems and the difficulties of the people had been increasing with every passing day, while the corruption and loot and plunder of the rulers were going on unabated. Had the rulers any moral courage, they would have stepped down voluntarily for their failure to deliver, he added. The JI central leader said that the judiciary in the country was free and now there was no scope for any supra constitutional dispensation or the induction of any technocrat Premier from abroad. The army too won't step in politics nor would it play any role in the change of government, he added.
Liaqat Baloch stressed that the Election Commission should be completely independent and the Presidency and civil bureaucracy should be impartial so that the electorate was able to choose its representatives without any pressure. He said the JI would fully participate in the elections. He said the JI was striving for the unity of the religious parties so as to block the way of secular and pro-US parties in the coming elections.
