Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offers joint skill development ventures with private sector
The provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday invited private sector to play its role in the promotion of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) through initiating joint ventures to contribute in the development of province.
The offer was extended by Provincial Minister for Technical Education Nawabzada Mehmoodzeb Khan while speaking in national seminar on Public-Private Partnership for Vocational Training organised under the auspices of Skill Development Council (SDC) Peshawar, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority, (TEVTA) in collaboration with TVET Reform Support Programme/GIZ here on Wednesday.
TVET experts, officials from the training providing institutes, industrialists, representatives of different chambers of commerce and industry attended the seminar. The main purpose of the seminar was to promote technical education through public private partnership and explore the avenues for replicating already successful models in KP.
Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) presented some of their existing models of public private partnership. The provincial minister said the provincial government is ready for initiating joint ventures with the private sector including the industry, saying skill development and modernisation of this sector is the top priority of the present government.
On the occasion, the provincial minister also announced the replication of the PVTC model and directed the concerned officials to work out modalities on how to make such arrangement in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He said chief minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be approached shortly for this purpose.
Speaking about some of the special skill development initiatives undertaken by the provincial government, the minister said a lot of emphases is being given to improving the quality of training and equip people with employable skills. He said the chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has already announced setting up a technology university in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to provide upward mobility to the TVET graduates.
Besides, the minister, the seminar was also addressed by Professor Shakeel Ahmad, secretary TVETA KP/Director General Technical Education, Fasial Ijaz Khan, chairman PVTC, Sajid Naseer Khan, Managing Director PVTC, Haji Mohammad Javed, chairman Skill Development Council Peshawar, former chief secretary KP Abdullah and Raja Saad Khan, National Deputy Co-ordinator TVET Reform Support Programme.
