Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf while talking about common values between Islam and Sikhism has said that belief of 'Oneness of God' existed in both the religions' teachings. He pointed out that saints' teachings reject acts of terrorism and stress upon spreading peace and harmony.
Speaking at the function of 544th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Saheb here on Sunday Prime Minister Ashraf he said that respect for the religious personality was there in all religious groups of the world. He said these put him in very high esteem because of his teachings.
Prime Minister said that Baba Guru Nanak Saheb spoke of truth, justice and Oneness of God. He said his beliefs were similar to the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
A number of Sikh delegations from Germany, UK and other countries were present in the function. Sardar Jang Bahadur, Sardar Man Mohan Singh, Sardar Reesham Singh led these delegations.
On the occasion, Sikhs also danced to drum beats. They also demanded increase in number of visas for the Sikhs Yatrees to attend the function. Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on the demand of Asif Hashmi announced opening of a passport office in Shahdara for Sikh Yatrees.
Later during the day, prime minister visited Governor House where he spoke to Governor Latif Khan Khosa on various issues.
Federal Minister for Climate Change Rana Farooq Saeed Khan also had a meeting with prime minister at Governor House during the day. He briefed prime minister about participation in the International Conference on Environment in Doha on December, 5 this year.
