Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to take action against the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who opened YouTube in some cities of the country on Monday. According to sources, YouTube was restored in some cities of the country without government's permission. The government has not yet taken any decision to restore YouTube.
Taking notice of the violations, the PTA has decided to investigate the ISPs who had opened the video sharing website in some cities of the country. The Authority would take stern action against the ISPs, which opened YouTube and their licenses could be suspended, sources maintained.
YouTube was banned in Pakistan three months ago over uploading an anti-Islam film on its website. The anti-Islam film triggered protests across the Muslim world including Pakistan. A spokesperson of PTA told Business Recorder that the Authority had not ordered to open the access to Youtube in Pakistan which was previously blocked on the directions of Prime Minister on the blasphemous movie uploaded on Youtube.
