A 10-member delegation of House of Commons of UK led by Sir Malcolm Bruce called on Secretary Health Punjab Arif Nadeem at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Secretary Health gave briefing to the delegation regarding important measures taken in Punjab for development of health sector, prevention of diseases, elimination of polio, improving child mother health and controlling the death ratio in pregnant women.
Special Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar, Director General Health Punjab Dr Nisar Cheema, Director Punjab Health Sector Reforms Programme Farasat Iqbal, Additional Secretary Health Dr Anwar Janjua and other officers attended the meeting. Secretary Health informed the delegation that Punjab government overcome the worst dengue menace of the world in a short period through strong struggle and community participation for which Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has delegated responsibilities to all the government departments and continued to hold meeting at 7.00 am on 76 days consecutively.
Arif Nadeem informed that after control the dengue, government made special measures for the success of polio campaign as a result of which only two cases of polio have been reported in Punjab during the current year. He said that after dengue control, Punjab government is focusing on prevention of diseases.
He said that the government rehabilitated the health infrastructure after worst flood in South Punjab. He said that labour room facilities are being provided with the cooperation of international partners round the clock and scope of 24/7 programme is being extended to 20 more districts. The Secretary Health informed the British delegation about Lady Health Workers Programme, Mother and Child Health, Punjab Health Sector Reforms Programme, EPI, Polio eradication, controlling malnutrition in pregnant women and children and other matters.
