They sought time of meeting from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on immediate basis so that he could be aware of all the circumstances. They expressed the hope that the chief minister would take notice of the issue and remove obstacles in the way of progress of universities.
They said the universities were functioning independently all over the world and any external intervention would destroy the academic atmosphere of universities. They said that relevant bodies were already existing whenever there was need of amendments to act related to universities under which matters could be taken at departmental level, faculty level, board of studies, academic council, syndicate and senate.
They said representatives of Punjab Assembly, Punjab government, judiciary, Higher Education Commission, Higher Education Department etc were already present in Senate and Syndicate and any matter could be sent to Punjab Assembly after its approval from Senate and Syndicate. The teachers said that the Act had been amended by the anti-education people who were not even related to universities. A meeting of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association has also been called on the issue on December 5 in Islamabad.
