Speakers at a condolence reference paid glowing tributes to former federal minister and human rights activist, the late Iqbal Haider, for his contributions and struggle for the rights of deprived people. The condolence reference was organised by Karachi Action Committee at Karachi Press Club here on Wednesday which was attended by scores of people belonging to various segments of the society.
"Iqbal was the man of principle and it is very difficult to bridge the gap that he left," said Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Senator Raza Rabbani. Rabbani said that Iqbal Haider was upright, blunt and man of conviction, adding that he never compromised on principles. He said that Iqbal had dedicated his life for the betterment of downtrodden people. In his address, Meiraj Mohammad Khan said that Iqbal had done a lot of work for developing cordial ties between Pakistan and India. He said Iqbal had envisioned of a progressive and prosperous Pakistan.
Meiraj said: "We have lost two personalities in past few days, Ardeshir Cowsjee and Iqbal Haider." He said that both were the men of honour and dignity who raised voice throughout their lives against injustices meted out to the poor people. Former Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid said that Iqbal worked for eradication of domestic violence and abuses of women. He said that Iqbal paid many visits to India for improving bilateral ties between India and Pakistan. Aneesa Haroon and others also spoke on the occasion.
