A dialogue between the leaders of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Secretary Health Balochistan held to resolve ongoing crisis in government hospitals due to doctor's strike.
The Quetta Press Club organised this dialogue and on the invitation of QPC administration, Secretary Health Balochistan Asmatullah Kakar and representatives of PMA including Professor Dr Saadat, Professor Dr Shehnaz Baloch, Professor Dr Ghulam Rasool, Professor Dr Haqdad Tareen and others attended the dialogue while senior leaders from media, traders association, Chamber of Commerce and Human Rights Commission were also present on this occasion.
Saleem Shahid, President Quetta Press Club said: "Society is facing attitude of zero tolerance towards issues. Deadlock between the Balochistan government and striking doctors has increased misery and difficulties of people as only poor patients are suffering due to this strike."
He offered that senior journalists were ready to play role of mediator between the provincial government and striking doctors to end the crisis. Senior Journalist Shehzada Zulfiqar urged both the Balochistan government and PMA to show flexibility on their stance and resolve the issue with immediate effect in order to reduce woes and grievances of poor patients visiting hospitals from far-flung areas.
PMA leader Professor Dr Saadat said that it was Health Department that shut down emergency and deployed security personnel to stop doctors from visiting emergency and hospitals after 73 doctors were arrested and booked for staging protest against abduction of Dr Saeed Khan. He alleged that police restored batten charge and tortured senior doctors when they took out rally on Zarghoon road against targeted killing and kidnapping of doctors.
Secretary Health Asmatullah Kakar offered unconditional talks to PMA to end the crisis. He said that he and his department could not be held responsible for closure of emergency service in government hospitals for a long period as saying it was striking doctors who even did not provide emergency medical aid to patients brought their in serious condition.
