Sukkur Small Traders Committee Monday held shutterdown strike and protests against police assault and registering cases against 37 shopkeepers here. It should be mentioned here that the police dressed in plain clothes allegedly tortured and tried to arrest a trader in the main cloth market of the city on late Sunday night.
The traders responding to the police action tore their clothes and broke the leg of one cop. The police reacting to the traders' protest and torture of the cops, baton charged the traders and also opened aerial fire and resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the traders due to which several traders suffered minor wounds besides leaving several others unconscious. A case was also registered against 37 traders of the market.
