Deadline for disposal of pending cases: PBC announces countrywide strike today
Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has announced countrywide strike on Thursday (today) against fixing of deadline for disposal of all pending cases before subordinate courts till December 31, 2012. The PBC appealed to lawyers across the country to observe strike against national judicial policy which required disposal of old pending cases by December 31. The PBC asked all bars to hold protest meetings and not attend the court proceedings.
The PBC in a statement issued, here Wednesday said its executive committee was of the view that the deadline fixed by National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) for disposal of pending cases was not feasible and courts being under tremendous pressure were compelled to speed up the disposal of cases by adopting short cuts prejudice to the basic requirements of dispensation of justice. It said the disposal of cases on technical grounds and that too with undue haste was violative of Article 10-A of the Constitution.
