A Punjab Assembly lawmaker, Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi, on Thursday was denied the opportunity to move a resolution on Kalabagh dam during the 43rd session of Punjab Assembly after which he staged a walk out, applauding the Lahore High Court's ruling in this regard.
In his resolution, the legislator said that the construction of the Kalabagh dam was vital to overcome the energy crisis in the country. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that holding elections under army supervision was the prerogative of the Election Commission.
The law minister said that the federal government should force the Governor Punjab to resign for making statements against the 18th Amendment. On a Point of Order, MPA Hassan Murtaza said that cane growers were facing difficulties in payments, adding that they were being offered 40 percent less. In response, the chair formed a five-member committee, comprising Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Sheikh Allaudin, Ehsanul Haq, Sajida Mir and Hassan Murtaza to put the issues of cane growers before the Cane Commissioner and the Secretary Agriculture, who have been summoned by the Chair in that context on Monday.
On a Call-Attention Notice, Rana Sanaullah said that the police had mistakenly thought that a boy to be a bandit who had snatched a motorcycle and fired on police. Answering questions on Livestock and Dairy Development matters, Minister Ahmed Ali Aulak said that there were five education centres in Punjab that were at present producing 471 PhDs in Veterinary Medicine in Punjab.
Aulak said that there were 39 veterinary hospitals working in Sargodha district and 27 in Rahimyar Khan. According to him, a modern slaughterhouse had started working in Lahore. Minster said that in 2010-11, there were 4,408 buffaloes and cows in government-run dairy farms in Punjab. He said they gave milk worth Rs 79.102 million in the same period. The House was later adjourned till 9am on Friday (today).
