The Senior Sindh Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq has said that Sindh Teachers Development Education Authority (STDEA) has been established by Sindh government to standardise and modernise the educational system in the province. He said that teachers would be provided training for modern teaching methodology and added that from next year the Associate Degree in Teaching would be made compulsory to qualify for the recruitment of teachers to ensure standard education.
This he observed while talking to journalists after concluding ceremony of four days teachers training workshop organised by Bureau of Curriculum and Extension Wing Jamshoro at Divisional Technology Resources Centre Latifabad No 7 Hyderabad on Thursday.
Pir Mazharul Haq said that revolutionary steps have been taken by the present government to raise the standard of education. He said that PITE Nawabshah and Bureau of Curriculum would be merged in the Sindh Teachers Development Educational Authority and it to be entrusted to provide proper training to the teachers of Sindh. He said that a bench comprised of 100 female teachers is at the verge to qualify the Associate Degree in teaching which would be equivalent to Graduation Degree, he added. He said that from next year PTC and CTC courses would be abolished and recruitment of the teachers would be made purely against the Associate Degree in Teaching.
He said that the elementary colleges in eleven districts in Sindh have started the study for Associate Degree in Teaching, in addition to that another CPD Course has also been started for the capacity building of the teachers. He said that two classrooms in each college and school in Sindh have been reserved under the active classroom scheme, to provide modern teaching and training to the students and teachers through multimedia. He said that reforms have also been made in the text of Board of Curriculum, under which the subjects regarding religious, ethnic and linguistic discrimination have been removed and replaced by religious harmony and computer education.
He said that we intend to develop the text as per ideology of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He said that shortly computer literacy books would be distributed among the primary schools of Sindh with free of cost. He said that the main reason of substandard education was recruitment of the teachers on recommendations (Sifarish) but it was this government that has recruited teachers through competition and on merit under third party validation.
He said that Sindh government has planned to recruit further 19,000 teachers on merit to overcome the shortage of teacher and open the closed schools. Responding a question, Pir Mazharul Haq said that 1,400 closed schools have been got re-opened while 4000 schools are still closed in the whole Sindh, but same would be reopened after recruitment of the teachers. Earlier, the Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq inaugurated Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Computer Lab in Divisional Technology Resources Centre Latifabad No 7 Hyderabad. Later, he also visited Agro Technology Centre Latifabad.
