Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Pir Syed Sabghat-u-llah Shah Rahsidi, has said that the Sindh People's Local Government Act (SPLGA) is a grave conspiracy against the people of Sindh. Addressing a big public rally here on Friday, he said that they supported a united Sindh and a united Pakistan adding that "our slogan is 'united Sindh and United Pakistan,' as we want to see the nation and the country as prosperous and developed."
Pir Pagara said the PML-F had joined the PPP-led coalition government to get the problems of people of Sindh resolved, however when they felt that the government was not sincere, they decided to leave the ruling coalition. He said they quit the coalition government on principles.
The PML-F leader said the People's Local Government Act was a grave conspiracy against the people of the province. "We categorically reject the controversial Act which is against the interests of Sindh," he added. Pagara said that the rulers had failed to stop targeted killings in Karachi where 10 to 15 people were being gunned down daily. He said the PPP-led government wrecked havoc on the country. He said the present government had even failed to given homes to the people who become homeless in the devastating floods and rains three years ago.
"We have no problems with the Urdu speaking people, or people of other provinces who have settled in Sindh," he added. He said that they wanted justice and honour, adding that people of Sindh were neither given justice nor honour. Pagara said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had to live in Sindh and Sindhi people had to live with them (MQM). He said that all people of Sindh irrespective of what language they speak were Sindhis. He claimed said that a political game was being played to compel the MQM to sit on opposition benches. He announced that Kalabagh Dam project was not acceptable to the people of Sindh.
Pir Pagara claimed that funds for Kalabagh project were allotted during the tenure of PPP government. The PML-F chief said that he had asked intellectual and political leaders of his party to draft a new manifesto of the party. Education and particularly for girls would be their top priority, he added.
