General Pervez Musharraf (retired) on Tuesday accused Mark Seigel, a close advisor/lobbyist of Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, of "wilfully fabricating" facts. Rejecting Mark Siegel's claim that he was with Benazir Bhutto in the United States when she received a threatening phone call from him (Pervez Musharraf), he said that the assertion was untrue and wilfully fabricated.
A message posted on Pervez Musharraf's Facebook account said: "It has come to my knowledge through recent media reports that Mr Mark Seigel, a close adviser/lobbyist of Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, has made a claim that on September 25th 2007 he was with Ms Bhutto in the United States, when she received a threatening phone call from me. I am shocked and amazed at Mr Seigel's assertion, which is entirely untrue and appears to be wilfully fabricated". Musharraf said that he spoke with Benazir Bhutto twice, once when they met in the UAE and the next time on phone after she returned to Pakistan in October 2007.
He said that it was during the second conversation that he shared with Benazir Bhutto intelligence information that had been conveyed to him personally by the leadership in the UAE, indicating that suicide bombers were planning to mount an attack against her. According to Musharraf's message on the Facebook, he also read Mark Seigel's opinion piece that had been published earlier this year in a US newspaper and he found his article "despicable". "It could not be farther from the truth." He said that he not only resented the implications, but found them to be "libellous with malicious intent, designed and perpetuated through him by the enemies of Pakistan who want to distort facts in an attempt to shift the blame."
